Breakout single and track six on Big Hug, pitched ahead of the album in September 2021 and added to Spotify New Music Friday around release. Luke solo. UNXIGNED read it as self-deprecation as freedom, not just confession, and that’s the trick: the hook is a joke you can sing in public, with the hmm refrain doing the embarrassed punctuation.
The verses run a familiar tape. Faking the laugh and correcting mid-bit (ooo yeah, I mean no, I’m sorry dude, I didn’t follow), envying the narcissists who shoot they shot and never think they miss, then lying awake while the brain keeps skipping over stupid things you’ve said. The bridge is a clean statement of the spotlight effect: nobody is really looking your way, you’re only that important in your own head. The flip is generous, if anything you might be a little entertained by this idiot, the performance of idiocy turned into the actual product.
The outro widens it to everyone: no one cares ‘cause we’re all idiots.
