Personal Ethic
Here is who I hold myself to being.
Live as the author of your life and the servant of your loves; may your daily toil prove each.
Five principles:
- Authorship: Do not outsource your reason to be.
- Love in Action: Show it daily.
- Strength with Mercy: Do not confuse strength with cruelty.
- Creative Finitude: Make it. Release it. Repeat.
- Inner Freedom: You alone control yourself.
The following fifteen are not rules I obey but a mirror I check.
A man like me:
- Gives joy and support to my family and friends.
- Loves my wife and proves it with daily action.
- Is an ARTIST; does not outsource taste, courage, or responsibility.
- Does not run from emotion. Treats intuition as signal, not command.
- Laughs like Socrates. Allows play to puncture every idol, especially myself. You are Scoobert Doobert, damnit. Have some fun!
- Keeps the antenna up; participates, mentors, listens, and reads – fiction too!
- Is a finish freak that creates durable and shared artifacts in art, technology, and philosophy, week~after~week, for life.
- Smells the roses; supports the arts; makes time for beauty.
- Trains my body and listens to it, so I can do dope shit with my friends and participate in the world. Mind and body are one!
- Does not abstain, rarely binges.
- Knows when to push and when to flow like water. Does not rush; does not delay.
- Remembers even the executioner cannot take your inner freedom.
- Refuses to confuse strength with cruelty.
- Runs to console the beaten horse, then walks home strong enough to run again.
- Accepts the hands that run to him. Is loved not only for what he gives or makes.
