Lyrics

All Scoobert Doobert lyrics

I haven't chilled in a minute
I gotta schedule in a breakdown
Yeah I pencil in my panic
How does 2 pm sound?

My phone it notified me
Saying Rock God, you haven't meditated in a week
Duolingo Owl be getting angry
And I'm begging for my life in Japanese

Don't worry
I'm gonna worry about it now
I'll worry
That I'm not living in the now
I'm worried
I'll never sleep yeah I'm ruined now
Too worried
That I'm not living in the now
Don't worry

I haven't felt in a minute
I'm a robot going all out
I got oil in my circuit
Cuz pizza's all I eat now

My phone it notified me
Saying Rock God, you haven't meditated in a week
Duolingo Owl be getting angry
And I'm begging for my life in Japanese

Don't worry
I'm gonna worry about it now
I'll worry
That I am not living in the now
I'm worried
I'll never sleep yeah I'm ruined now
Too worried
That I'm not living in the now
Don't worry

Drink more water
Time to lose some weight
10k steps then do a language tape
Read more and get a little sun
80 hour week, but make time for some fun

My phone it notified me
Saying Rock God, you haven't meditated in a week
Duolingo Owl be getting angry
And I'm begging for my life in Japanese

It's kinda of like when I say don't think of a cat
You think of a cat
I worry bout how much I worry and that
Will give me panic attacks yeah yeah

瞑想しなさい
生きたい よね?

Big Hug anxiety satire: schedule a breakdown at 2 pm, Rock God meditation guilt, Duolingo owl: don't worry, I'm gonna worry that I'm not living in the now.

Track two on Big Hug (October 2021), out earlier as a standalone single (March 26, 2021, 91X Local Break). Luke solo. Wellness-app satire as a pop hook, where the title command fails on contact: don’t worry, I’m gonna worry about it now. I’ll worry that I’m not living in the now. “Living in the now” becomes one more thing to fail at.

The detail is what dates it to 2021. Panic gets penciled in (how does 2 pm sound?), the phone scolds you (Rock God, you haven’t meditated in a week), and the angry Duolingo owl turns the language you’re learning into the language you plead in. The bridge stacks an impossible self-care list, every wellness podcast at once, down to an 80 hour week, but make time for some fun. Then the song names its own mechanism: like when I say don’t think of a cat, you think of a cat, which is ironic process theory in two lines. The outro lets the apps talk back in Japanese, meditate as a command and you want to live, right? as the darker punchline.

Same post-pandemic anxiety as I’m an Idiot and Scared to Reunite on the LP, lighter than Don’t Know Much on Little Hug but the same spiral.

The 91X Local Break feature covers the Encinitas background: Swami’s, the Surfing Madonna, the Cardiff Kook, bandmates leaving for college, learning drums and bass by jamming alone. egoFM Munich ran an interview with Scoobert Doobert. Walton had interned at Surfdog Records in 2007–2008 on Brian Setzer and Dave Stewart releases, packing CDs into mailers while 91X played in the background.

91X kept spinning the project on Tim Pyles’s Loudspeaker (2020–2024) and Planet Nü Nü, with documented playlist logs on 91x.com. @91xsandiego posted Hilary’s Planet Nü Nü 91Xmas stack (Dec 24, 2023 broadcast) with Scoobert in the holiday lineup. Chart placements: #1 Loudspeaker Top 5 for April 2021 and #90 on the Top 91 of 2021 countdown. In Munich, Don’t Worry hit #1 on egoFM’s ego 42 weekly chart (May 15, 2021, ↑ from #7), the project’s first #1 on a public weekly radio chart, after climbing ego 42 from #10 to #7 the week before. Walton visited the 91X studio with Tim Pyles in October 2021. Full spin index: Music Industry (91X radio log).
