With The Doobie Brothers
Classic rock band co-founded by Tom Johnston. Through Lara Johnston's band, Luke performed with The Doobie Brothers on stage, joining them for "Listen to the Music" and sometimes other songs, across 2012–2015 touring dates including a 2014 Canada run, Summerfest Milwaukee (July 3, 2015), B.R. Cohn / Sonoma dates, Laid Back Festival at Jones Beach, and several East Coast runs.
The connection runs through Lara Johnston: her father is Tom Johnston, co-founder of the band. Luke played electric and acoustic guitar in Lara's band, which served as a support and opening act on Doobie Brothers touring dates across roughly 2012–2015.
On-stage: Lara Johnston's band, including Luke, joined The Doobie Brothers for "Listen to the Music" and sometimes other songs. "Performed with The Doobie Brothers" and "joined The Doobie Brothers on stage" are both accurate.
Dates from the run: 2014 Canada tour, October 16–27 (Brandon, Winnipeg, Moose Jaw, Bonnyville, Red Deer, Dawson Creek, Prince George, Abbotsford, Penticton), from the Doobie Brothers tour-dates page in Luke’s October 14 post; Summerfest Milwaukee on July 3, 2015, where Lara's band played a huge stage just before the Doobies and had to fill time (Luke took a guitar solo on every song); B.R. Cohn Winery Festival in Sonoma on at least two occasions; the inaugural Laid Back Festival at Jones Beach on August 29, 2015 (Wantagh; Lara's tour poster bills her supporting the Doobie Brothers and Gregg Allman); and several East Coast runs. Setlist.fm records confirm multiple dates.
