The prompts are Apple’s. The answers are his.
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
I was Older Simba in the Lion King for our elementary school performance. My voice cracked.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why?
Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color
Kimbra, The Golden Echo
Mother Mother, Eureka
Without these records, I wouldn’t make the music I do, mix the way I do, or even be the same person. To Pimp a Butterfly, Get to Heaven, and Harmony of Difference should be on here, too, among many, many others.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special.
I wrote this song thinking about my best friends, chilling on Moonlight Beach, beer and bud in hand. I love writing Platonic love songs. They’re real celebrations of why I love life. The homies!
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
I started learning Japanese when I was very sick in the hospital with Guillain-Barré syndrome. I didn’t know why. It just brought me comfort. Now, I produce a band called CHAI from Nagoya, and spend every chance I get in Japan. Serendipity and joy!
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
I would love to collaborate with my musical heroes. I hope to keep getting my chops up, so I can hang when that time comes! I want to grow the community / scene and create with the people I love. I also wanna play Red Rocks!
