With Sam Wilkes Partial

Los Angeles bassist, composer, and producer (Wikipedia). USC Thornton inaugural popular-music classmate of Luke Walton; bass on Rozzi Crane’s 2010 self-booked California coast tour band — Walton’s Luke Walton Band lineup with Wilkes subbing for Nick Campbell.

Sam Wilkes (born July 22, 1991) studied R&B and funk at USC Thornton’s Popular Music Program under Patrice Rushen and Leon “Ndugu” Chancler, in the inaugural cohort with Luke Walton and Rozzi Crane (Wikipedia; The New Yorker on Wilkes & Gendel).

Summer 2010: Walton and Crane’s first tour together — a self-booked run up the California coast (San Diego → San Francisco). The Luke Walton Band played one bill; Crane’s band was the same Walton lineup with Wilkes on bass (Logan Shrewsbury drums, Peter Lee Johnson violin, Walton guitar — Nick Campbell on bass on the LP and Thornton showcase clips, not this road leg).

Public record after Thornton (Wikipedia): Wilkes became Crane’s bassist and musical director; 2015 Maroon V Tour with Crane; Scary Pockets, Knower (with Louis Cole and Sam Gendel), solo albums including Wilkes (2018) and Driving (2023), and collaborative Music for Saxofone & Bass Guitar series on Leaving Records. No co-released studio credit with Walton is indexed on this site.

2010 self-booked coast tour is the Luke Walton thread on this site; later Crane/Wilkes and solo career via Wikipedia and samwilkes.net.
