With Derek “MixedByAli” Ali Partial

Also credited as Derek Ali, MixedByAli

Grammy-winning mix engineer (MixedByAli / Wikipedia; Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Childish Gambino, and more). During Luke Walton's NAMM years (2018–2024), Luke was Derek's primary contact at NAMM — coordinating programs, trade-show logistics, and editorial — and joined him in-studio repeatedly during those years.

Derek Ali (MixedByAli) is a Los Angeles mixing engineer whose credits include good kid, m.A.A.d city, To Pimp a Butterfly, DAMN., Ctrl, and Record of the Year winner “This Is America.” He founded EngineEars for remote mixing education and access.

Luke’s relationship runs through NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants), where Luke worked 2018–2024 evaluating MI and pro-audio tools, producing trade content, and shepherding artist/engineer programs. Derek was a recurring NAMM Show collaborator — mixing workshops, Playback features, and TEC Awards appearances — and Luke served as his primary institutional contact across that stretch. Luke wrote the NAMM trade Q&A with Derek ahead of the 2019 show (`/writing/#trade`).

Beyond the show floor, Luke was in-studio with Derek repeatedly during those years. That is documented here as in-studio visits — not a claim on released discography credits.

Public corroboration: Luke Walton’s [NAMM trade byline](https://www.namm.org/trade-show/learn-mixing-mixedbyali-namm-show) (2019 interview), TEC Awards photo, and NAMM workshop page. In-studio visits are Luke’s archive account unless track-specific credits surface later.
