What a Velma What a Night
Cartoon-funk confession: don't expect oratory: a brutish loser offers Velma a magic brownie while the hook keeps asking what a night, like the future might still happen.

Track one on Finding $D, the debut LP opener and one of its first two singles alongside My Scoobert Snack (instrumental; Stereofox, July 2017). Luke solo; every song on the LP was written, recorded, mixed, and mastered in a single day. It reappears on $WAMI$ as What a Velma, What a Night (Quickie), a shorter collage cut on the 2018 lore-dump LP.
The song opens by swearing off grandeur (don’t expect some great long oratory) and then breaks the promise, offering stories of a druggy in frenzy. The joke is the disclaimer; the song is the revelry it claimed it wouldn’t deliver. Underneath the pop-funk chant, a self-roast doubles as a pickup line: a brutish man offering a brownie that gives you powers right inside your pretty head. The whole thing is bookended by one word, the future, left hanging like a thesis nobody finished.
The clownish frame buys the song permission to be sincere, weird, and rough at once (Finding $D album essay). Reddit’s r/listentothis picked it up as pop/funk around the same era.
Pairs with My Meddling Kids (Hallelujah Sexy) on the debut, leading into the rest of the record before the lore dump on $WAMI$ and the hip-hopera on Dragon Ball $d.
Written, performed, mixed, and mastered by Luke Francis Walton.
